Fire Engine Station #2.
Decatur, GA, is constructing a new fire station that will be the City of Decatur's first LEED certified building. Power Partners Solar has worked with Amy Landesberg Architects and Praxis 3 to design a solar water heater capable of meeting all of the hot water needs for the living quarters in the fire station. The solar panels will be mounted on the back of the glass tower. The structure will create a clean, modern look with a presence that blends with the surrounding neighborhood. Completion is expected in Fall 2009. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design; it is a certification procedure developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to promote environmentally responsible and sustainable housing.

John C. Campbell Folk School.
The John C. Campbell Folk School is one of the country's most remarkable centers for traditional arts and crafts. Founded in 1925, the school is dedicated to fostering creativity and community-mindedness in partnership with its local community. It offers weeklong and weekend classes year-round in basketry, blacksmithing, book arts, cooking, dance, gardening, glass, instrument-making, jewelry, metalworking, music, painting, photography, quilting, woodworking, and many other subjects. When the Folk School decided to build a two-story residence with six apartments for students and guests, it wanted to combine new ways with the old and go green. The solar water heater designed by Power Partners Solar provides hot water for up to 12 residents and heats the tile floors in the bathrooms.
